At Schmauder & Partner AG we can rely on more than 25 years of successful activity in the realm of intellectual property protection. Our expertise relates, in particular, to all steps involved with filing, prosecuting, defending and enforcing patents, trademarks, designs and plant varieties, carrying out database searches of all kinds, monitoring industrial property rights of our clients' competitors, preparing legal opinions, drafting license agreements, coordinating and instructing infringement and nullity actions in Switzerland and abroad as well as preparing translations. An important aspect of our work is the strategic management of intellectual property aimed at providing optimal protection under given circumstances.

Our firm currently has ten employees, two of whom are patent attorneys forming a team that covers virtually the entire field of technology, conversant in German, English, French and Italian. Moreover, an attorney-at-law acts as legal counselor with particular focus on trademark and design matters. By means of an established and ever growing international network of associates, we can take care of our clients' interests worldwide in an efficient and reliable manner.

Career
Peter Felder was born in Milan, Italy. After moving to Switzerland he graduated in chemistry at ETH Zürich, where he subsequently carried out a doctoral thesis in physical chemistry. After a two-year post-doctoral stay at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory of the University of California he joined the University of Zurich where he spent ten years as a staff scientist and project leader in the fields of laser chemistry and reaction dynamics. In 1993 he was awarded the Alfred Werner Medal of the New Swiss Chemical Society and in the same year he was appointed as a Lecturer in physical chemistry at the University of Zurich. In 1995 Peter Felder joined the firm of Schmauder & Partner, of which he became the managing partner and majority shareholder in 2006.

Professional activity
Peter Felder is registered as a European Patent Attorney and admitted to practice before the Swiss and the European Patent Office. His activities particularly comprise developing and implementing client-specific patent strategies and consultancy concerning technology transfer. His technical expertise primarily covers chemistry, materials technology and analytics, but also medicine, pharmaceutics and medical device technology. Peter Felder is a lecturer at the University of Zurich, where he has a teaching appointment at the faculty of science on protection of intellectual property in physics, chemistry and biology. He is also involved as lecturer in short courses at the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) in Lugano.

Career
Klaus D. Schmauder studied at the Technische Hochschule in Munich, Germany, where he obtained degrees in mechanical engineering and in economic engineering with focus on law, particularly intellectual property. He then worked as an engineer dealing with development, training and patent cases in the field of civil engineering machinery for an engine-manufacturing firm in Munich. Thereafter he took over a position as managing director of the entire non-chemical patent division of an IP firm in Zurich for fifteen years. In 1980, together with the late Dr. Ingrid Wann who passed away in 1994, Klaus Schmauder founded "Schmauder & Wann", which in 1998 was reorganized to "Schmauder & Partner AG".

Klaus D. Schmauder is registered as a European Patent Attorney and admitted to practice before the Swiss and the European Patent Office. The professional expertise acquired in more than forty years of professional activity covers the entire field of intellectual property including the handling of infringement and nullity actions. His technical fields are mechanical engineering with extensive expertise in textile machinery, large-scale engines and conveyor technology. Further fields of interest are civil engineering and mechanics.

Career
Michael Kleinschmidt studied physics at the University of Freiburg i. Breisgau, Germany, and then carried out a doctoral thesis in the field of medium energy physics at the Swiss Institute of Nuclear Research – now the Paul Scherrer Institute. After a one-year post-doctoral stay he moved to aviation industry where he acted as group and project leader for various research and development projects, particularly for navigation systems. Based on his comprehensive experience in this field, in 1990 he was appointed as division manager for navigation, on-board computers and life preserving and saving systems at the German Space Agency (DARA). After completing his training as Patent Attorney in Germany and as European Patent Attorney, Michael Kleinschmidt moved to Switzerland in 2001 and joined the firm of Schmauder & Partner in 2005.

Michael Kleinschmidt is registered as a European Patent Attorney and admitted to practice before the Swiss and the European Patent Office. His technical expertise covers physics and electronics with extensive experience in instrument measurement and control, coating technology and laser technology. Further fields of activity are mechanics and information technology.

Career
Andreas Thierstein studied law at the University of Zurich. Before that, he had worked in a publishing house and obtained a degree as advertising assistant from the SAWI Institute in Zurich and Biel. Still a law student, he worked for a large trademark firm in Zurich where he gained practical experience in the field of intellectual property. After his graduation, Andreas Thierstein completed a one-year stay as an auditor at the District Court of Zurich and subsequently was admitted to the bar of the Canton of Zurich in December 2001. In March 2002, he joined the firm of Schmauder & Partner.

Professional activity
Andreas Thierstein is an attorney-at-law and a member of the bar of the Canton of Zurich. His expertise covers all aspects of intellectual property law with particular interest in trademarks and designs. Further fields of his activity are copyright, competition law and contracts, including most notably license agreements.

Career
Gabriella Hänggi studied chemistry at the University of Zurich, where she first obtained a degree in chemistry and pharmacology and then carried out a doctoral thesis in the field of bioinorganic chemistry. After working for a medical and pharmaceutics consultancy firm she joined a publishing house where she was the editor of a professional journal for internal medicine for several years. In 2002 Gabriella Hänggi started her freelance activity that includes writing articles on medical topics in journals for health professionals but also preparing and reviewing medical documentation; for Schmauder & Partner she contributes to the handling of a number of cases, particularly in relation to chemistry, material technology, pharmaceutics and medicine.

Professional activity
With Schmauder & Partner, Gabriella Hänggi prepares patent translations in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceutics, medicine and medical technology. Her further activity comprises searches, analysis and assessment of various patent issues, particularly in relation to chemistry, pharmaceutics and medicine patents.
